More confused about tires...
Sorry guys but I am little ignorant when it comes to these things please be patient with me. I just called tire rack and they said they were not sure about WHEEL WELL clearance for the tires if I put 245/40-18 on my OEM rims. The factory size recommendation is 235/40-18, they said the larger tire might rub but were not sure about how it would fit an Audi S4 or even an A4. Obviously my main motivation for changing tire size is the great deals Tire Rack has on Bridgestone's high end tires which I can choose from, the one last issue is they said I would have to inflate to a higher degree to make up for the lesser load ratings in the plus size, they did not know exactly what an appropriate amount of PSI would be and if it would make up for the decreased load rating. Has any one put these UP size tires on there factory rims and had any rubbing problems or any other problems with up sizing that I should know? What would be an appropriate amount of PSI? IF the size issue works out I think I am going with the Bridgestone RE050A Pole Position any one have any good or bad comments to share about that particular tire? I have to get something done today because right now my car is unsafe to drive so Quick help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. Sorry for being so Green

I have always had luck with Bridgestone...
I haven't run the 050s on anything yet but have had success with several of their other top end tires. That being said, I am still not sure that I am ready to run a lower load rated tire than we started with. I know a lot of folks have done it with excellent results but this is a heavy car and while it might be tough to get 1300 lbs of weight transferred to one corner and I'm sure there is margin in the rating, it still seems to me that having that 1500 lbs versus the standard load 1300 lb rating (numbers rounded to the best of my recollection) would leave me more time to look ahead to the next corner rather than worrying about that outside front tire holding up. Again - many have done this succesfully - maybe I worry too much.

I run 245 40 18s without a problem on the Avus rims. Have had them for 15k miles
The larger tire will have a higher laod rating and you speedometer will now read very close to actual
