I have a 2006 s4 manual transmission. I have to add 1 litre of oil every 4 months. I do about 2500km or less month and i have had my low oil light go on twice. Today i had to add 1 litre of oil at my local service station. is this normal? or should i take it to my dealer and have it checked out?

And what oil are you using? If you see your oil consumption accelerate, it is possible that the oil is breaking down and degrading.

Mine doesn't use hardly a drop between service. These are pretty tight motors and I consider 1 qt/1.1k excessive on these cars. Especially with low mileage and Audi's suggested service interval. Then again, if I was faced with having to replace the motor under warranty I'd figure 1 qt every 1k miles much cheaper.

your car would have to be literally spewing oil to be considered a problem. BTW, I would want to know EXACTLY what is not in the acceptable range

They have crap logic...1 qt per 1000 miles and you would be out of oil by the time it came to a 10k service interval. They make the assumption that the owner will check and refill when low. I guess this is why they have the "low oil" light. Luckily I knew my B5 was leaking, and not burning/consuming. Car is gone now.

There are actually several other reasons for oil consumption that have nothing to do with break-in and are much more likely. In fact, the more i look at oil in these engines, the more I find that in some cases oil consumption is a good thing.
Have you ever had your oil analyzed, by Dyson, Dr GP? I suggest that you do, and I'll bet that you'll find fuel dilution. Your lack of consumption may be very well do to replacement of the oil by fuel and water absorption. The dipstick may show full, but it may not all be oil any more.
