My '06 S4 went "brain dead"

That according to the dealer.
Long story short, I get into my car after lunch, and just about every warning light goes on, in particular my check oil light. The car is running, about 20 mph tops in first gear, yet NOTHING is registering. No MPH, no RPMS, no mileage NOTHING!
I was able to drive it about 3 miles to a local dealer who were completed dumb founded by what was going on. They test drove it, got it up to 50mph w/o any problems, howeevr some of the warning lights such AIR BAGS, ESP, etc lights were still on.
Then all of a sudden the check oil light went off, eventually all of the warning lights went off, however the dealer was unable to explain what happened. They are keeping the car over night. AoA and the "tech line" (?) said that the dealer should drive the car for 50 miles (weird) and see what happens from there. The service rep said she can pretty much "guarantee" that something will go wrong, if so they'll take note and fix it, if not...who knows.
Pretty vague, and confusing, hopefully I'll know more tomorrow. Keep in mind this car was bought in Nov '05 has 5400 miles and had it's 5000 miles service about a month ago. To this point there have been ZERO problems.
Anyone else have any problems like this...?

Right, electrical and engine mgmt problem in combination sounds like bad ECU.
They're going to drive it like that for 50 miles? Sounds ludicrous! I don't know that I'd go for that as serious problems could result and they're probably looking at a tow back.
Not that I'm able to comment on the problem as well as the dealer techs and AoA, but doesn't sound right, IMO.

They say it's common that they take cars for 50 mile "test" drives(?). Anywho I'm paying for 15,000 miles a year and 7 months into my lease have 5400 miles. So they can drive it, plus their insurance covers any accidents.
It's probably the ECU, hopefully that won't take too long to obtain.

Hopefully it's isolated to one bad component or maybe the PC board...which it sounds strangely like.
My point on the 50 miles test drive wasn't so much the mileage, but the logic in doing that kind of a run when the thing was barely driveable and all systems going nuts.
They'd be better off getting it on a dyno and running it that way, with frequent start/stops. Weren't they able to pull any codes? Or were there just to many fault codes for them to make any sense of?

...I've read about some crazy **** happening with bad clusters. I had one go bad on my TT, and it just wouldn't start at all...had to get it towed.
Do a search on 'instrument cluster' and you'll find some stuff.
