Default I do. Very happy. No real power gains, but it fits well, looks nice, and sounds amazing.

IMO, best design of all the different intakes out there (venturi, etc.). And it doesn't use a foam filter, as I do not trust those.

The power gains quoted in the post are from Evolution Motorsports. Glad to hear you like it though!

Default Incorrect Price

The price we had posted originally in this post was incorrect. The price has been fixed above.

Subliminal Image, if you do choose to buy this then we can do the original price we had posted. Sorry about that mistake!

Glad to hear that people have this and enjoy it! Evolution makes great products.

$329 for less filtration, no increase in power, increaed intake temps.

Default That's not telling the whole story.

K&N Filters have been around for a long time. They filter plenty fine. You will not get dust, dirt, or any other unwanted outside particules in your engine. In fact, you could probably run the car, in an urban area, without any filter at all for a long time w/o any problems.

There is a definite increase in power when cold. At least it felt that way on my butt dyno with this particular unit. I can't speak for the other intakes. When hot, there is also definitely a power loss. But losing power due to heat soak is common, regardless of an open air-filter. This just exascerbates it.

IMO, the $329 is well worth it when you hear one of these on the 4.2 V8. It's magic. I'd sacrifice 5 HP loss in hot weather conditions for that sound any day of the week. I don't live my life a quarter of a mile at a time (not saying you do, just putting it in perspective). This intake makes me enjoy my car more, and that is my top priority. Whether someone else is willing to pay $329 for that increased enjoyment is up to them.

Default On the other hand, gauze filters have the worst filtering capability...

of the three majors (foam, paper, and guaze). You can see evidence of increased silicates in the engine on may UOAs and the oil analysis person has pointed out to me I was using an aftermaket "KN" style filter without me ever having told him.

The oiled filters have the potential for MAF damage whereas the oil-less foam ones do not nor the oilless paper ones.

There has never been any evidence at all to support gains even in cold weather and very few people have done back to back datalogging runs of this which is the only way you would know since even if the intake was making the advertised gains of 10chp (which there is no evidence it is) you would not feel this linear hp gain in the butt. WE do know that the EVOMS intake saw 15 degrees hotter temps on a 36 deg C day on the 1.8t platform although advertised also as a cold air intake.

Sound. Sound is what it comes down to and I can appreciate that. However $30 worth of filter on a stick and $5 worth of heat shield can make sound too.

Default That's all fine, but you said less filtration and I say that's either not true or immaterial.

And no, "$30 worth of filter on a stick and $5 worth of heat shield" cannot recreate the sound of the EVO-ms unit.

Default Why not?

Regarding reduced filtration, having added silicates (sand) in your engine may not cause failure but I prefer the least amount possible and just wouldnt pay to have more sand in my engine unless I was somehow getting one hell of a positive tradeoff.

Regarding noise, I had put a home made filter on a stick on a mustang I had and the sound was crazy. I put an open round element on an old impala I had and it sounded awesome too. Folks have done it on the 1.8t bunches of times and even the 2.0T fsi as well and found some great noise out of it (no diff then the evoms for those applications really). Did you try the home made route and not like the noise?
