Need Help, CEL related to O2 sensors/exhaust
Hello guys, my car is constantly throwing a P2196 code. It is a 2005 B6 s4. First, I have to give a little back story because I recently had my car serviced. For a little over two years I had APR downpipes installed on my car. Last weekend I had the stock downpipes reinstalled. I grew tired of the raw exhaust smell and the multiple check engine lights associated with the APR pipes. I no longer get all the catalyst efficiency codes but it is still throwing a P2196 code. I didn't have my laptop with me so I couldn't do a vagcom scan on it. I just pulled the code with a generic code scanner. I looked the code up online and this is its definition.
Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor Bank 1 Sensor 1: Signal too High (Rich) or Signal Stuck Rich
P2196 - 000 - - - MIL ON
I'm thinking one of the O2 sensors could be fouled. B1 S1 is the passenger side, pre-cat sensor correct? My first thought is to replace the sensor and see if the code comes on again. Any ideas as to what else could be causing this code?

correct
That sensor will be a bit of a pain to replace, and will be about $100. Just an FYI.
Get someone with VAGCOM to come scan your car and help get more info (as well as clear the code after saving it. Then you can look deeper into it.
Who replaced the downpipes? Tell them you got the CEL right after and maybe they'll scan/clear the code for you.
I'm going to bet on a bad cat, just for fun. Let us know how it goes.

You need an O2 sensor spacer - I have the same issue
I have an '04 S4 with Milltek fullback system - same issue - my mechanic says its a spacer that will keep it from tripping:

Am looking now for the best manufacturer - they are cheap from what I see.
