Default need help findin "hot" side of fuse (x-post)

Can someone tell me how to determine which side of a fuse is hot?

I thought if I pulled it, and measured voltage between both sides of the socket, and ground, one side would come up zero - but neither does, they're both the same.

My only other instinct just that whichever side of it takes the + side of my multimeter must be the hot side since - is ground... but I get all confused between the importance of - grounding vs. the fact that electricity flows from negative to positive.<ul><li><a href="https://www.audiworld.com/forum/misc.html">perhaps this isn't entirely "off topic?"</a></li></ul>

Default Touch the "-" probe to the metal frame near the fuse panel and the "+" probe to the fuse contacts.

You will only get a measurement from the hot fuse contact. Do make sure that the ground probe ("-") is on an unpainted surface.

Default As I said, I get a reading from both sides...

and yes, that's with the fuse removed.

Default As it turns out, this was a stupid question...

because the answer is, "the hot side is the side that can power the accessory while the fuse is removed."

The hot side turns out to have 14 volts, and the other side for reasons I won't begin to guess at, has about 10 volts.

But with the fuse removed, in fact, only one side actually made the valentine work, so there I go. It was the left side, when facing the fuse box.
