Does anyone have a list of items to check when picking up a new car? If not, is there anything in particular one should be looking for?
Thank you

just give it a complete walkthrough and make sure the leather wasn't scratched. (basically, and this sounds stupid...it should look like a brand new spankin' freakin' car.)

I have bought quite a number of new vehicles over the years and the atmosphere that car dealers present when you go to accept your new car tends to overwhelm your senses. That is their intent and it will cause you to overlook details you will later discover at your own (non-pressured) leisure.
Do your best to examine the car for finish flaws of any nature you can spot - both interior and exterior. It's hard to perform a completely thorough (undistracted) examination of the car for flaws when there is a constant barage of verbiage being thrown at you by your salesperson. I have watched this performance by several different dealerships of several different types of cars through the years and the resulting buyer's experience is almost always overwhelming to the senses no matter how you have mentally prepared yourself for the onslaught.

explained everything in detail to your satisfaction and they'll go away. I bought my car at night so they pulled it inside for me to inspect. Definately bring cosmetic issues to your dealer's attention within the "contract" period (e.g., in NJ you have 3 days to back out of a contract) -- don't expect to wait for your 5K; they'll [understandably] blame you.
