Default Better piece of advice.... DON"T!

not something that's good for synchro's or tranny.

downshift to all other gears with the essential blip on the throttle that's fine, but first is so short it's not a good idea.

just my 25 cents when all you wanted was .02

Default Consider 1st gear for taking off from a dead stop. If you're moving, use 2nd gear

Trying to force your way into 1st gear is going to ruin your synchros. The transmission should shift smoothly as you go through the gears.

Also, don't try to hurry a shift. Take your time and shift slowly until you're very familiar with the pattern and the shift points. Trying to force a shift when trying to shift quickly will also damage the synchros.

Default I don't get it. You've never touched a manual transmission in your LIFE

and you wanna learn on a 50K car?? Why didn't you buy like a used Ford Festive or Aspire or something to learn that if you ever throw your car in 1st while doing 20 MPH, you'll fly out the windshield.

Good luck man. Try not to trash the clutch, oh wait a minute, it's still under warranty!!

Default I didn't think about that, but I really regret for buying a 50K car as my first

manual car. The problem is .....to late. Hope I can get used to it before I break it.

Default You can but since in most cars first gear is not synchronized you have to double clutch/rev match

It will alow you to make a smooth shift into first and reduce the chance of the car throwing you foward. I wouldn't recommend it going into first but if you want to get better at stick you should atleast learn how to rev match (not necessarily double clutching) for downshifting from other gears (i.e. 5-3). Do a search here or on yahoo on these techniques. I don't think I am qualified nor do I feel comfortable explaining how to do them.
