Well people, I've had the car for 5 days and 400 miles. I'm noticing I have an intermittent stiffnes on 1st and 2nd gear. It occurs when cold and then goes away, occasionally returning when warm aswell. I think I'm going to speak to the dealer, but I will miss the car if it goes in.
Avram drove my car in the city and also saw what I was talking about.
Anyone seen this?

Mine only started at 5k and it happens just because it's cold. I just double clutch if it's too hard, but I did what someone suggested in that I row through the gears when I'm at a light and it's still cold. It's not a problem for me anymore. It's just odd at first when you're not used to it....we'll get the same questions again next winter.

I had the same problem in my BMW 328i. I used the recommended redline trans fluid and the problem disappeared. Shifting in the warm, already good, improved even further. You may want to check and see what Redline recommends for the S4

The shifting has gotten smoother with wear and miles, not quite as buttery smooth as I had hoped but much better than many manuals I have driven.
I attest some of the earlier notchiness to the tight assembly tolerances in my transmission, as well as some hesitation brought on by the posts of clutch/trans/engine failures.
Under hard shifting no problem, but you can't keep it up all day in traffic. Being cautious brings it on with slower shifting and improper clutch engagement, and since the car is broken in I have begun to relax and shift more naturally, not perfect but getting there.
Monitor it, but I wouldn't let it bother you too much, at my 5000mi service I will address any concerns if they reappear. There is a larger leaning curve with this car than most.
