Oil consumption issue.

I recently took my 2006 S4 in for it's 65K. Yes, I drive it quite a bit, and I'm pleased to say that I have not had any problems since the car has been out of warranty. But.....
Over the past 15K miles, or so, the engine has been consuming oil at an alarming rate. The oil light has been coming on every 1K miles on average. I remember commenting to my service rep at the Audi dealer a while back that the car was consuming oil. He said that it's normal and not to worry about it.
When I brought the car in for it's 65K I mentioned the oil consumption issue again. The service rep said that 1 quart about every 1,500 miles is normal. I told him that I was well within that number and he started me on a oil consumption test. I have to bring in the car every 1,000 miles, or sooner if the oil light comes on so they can measure the oil usage. According to the service rep, Audi will step in and make any necessary repairs once they have documentation of excessive oil usage.
- The engine is not leaking oil externally.
- There is oily film on the exhaust tips.
This obviously indicates an internal oil leak. A very expensive repair to say the least. I'm glad that Audi has offered to fix the problem even though the car is out of warranty.
Has anyone experienced or heard about a similar problem with the 4.2 V8? The Audi rep seemed surprised when I told him about it.

there are lots of oil consumption threads. Search, and you should find them. Try searching on Audizine as well, I've seen many posts about this topic there.
Some people say the rings haven't seated properly upon engine break-in. This is something that occurs in the first few miles of the car. Could be that...or...
It could be the oil. I went through 1 quart my first 1K miles. I started to use Lubro-Moly, and I haven't had to add more oil ever again.
It is 'normal' to have these issues. I think it's abnormal when you're putting in 2 quarts per 1K miles. I'm not an expert, just relaying what I've heard and my own experience.

The others include Mobil 1 , Amsoil etc.
Brands such as Castrol Syntec advertise themselves as a synthetic, but they are really a hybrid oil.. The castrol european formula however (sold at BMW dealers) is a true synthetic..

are all 100% synthetic. The Castrol synthetic isn't 100%.
If you want the engine running for a long time, switch it up to one of the brands that I posted here.
Make sure the oil you get has the VW 502.00 and 505.00 certification. I know that Lubro-Moly has both. I don't know where to buy in a brick and mortar location, I just order it online.
When the dealer does oil changes, I bring 10 liters of Lubro-Moly and have them use it instead of the Castrol.
Another thing about this engine and oil. Don't use too many brands. Just choose one and stick with it. Supposedly it'll prolong the life of the engine. Who knows tho [shrug]
If you want a link for the Lubro-Moly, let me know.
