Ok so I've had previous posts on oil consumption for my 2004 S4. The dealer filled the oil to 100 percent by having the car at stone cold temperature and then running the car for 5 minutes at idle. Then they filled the oil. I have driven 830 miles and my "OIL LOW" light came on.
Now I asked how they would quantitate how much oil has been burned since 1 quart per 1000 miles is acceptable to them. The service manager at Brookline Audi said that he's going to fill up my oil until it shows 100 percent again. I find this method a bit crude. I asked him, if the oil is below the metal part on the dipstick and is on the plastic part, doesn't that indicate that it's down 1 quart. He said no. So I'm wondering how should this test really be done. Thanks everyone for your posts previously.

You will never get a straight honest evaluation from them. They have had a horrible reputation for years and don't seem to care.
I spent 5 minutes there and every sensory input in my body screamed RUN.
You are wasting your time and emotions there.
If it was me I would probably want them to drain and measure the oil with me present after 1000 miles.
I don't think that would be an unreasonable request to make. The most that would cost you is the price of an oil change.
Clair Audi in Westwood is less than 10 miles away and is known to be honest and enthusiast friendy.
I suggest calling them or ANY other dealership around.
Good luck

I have an official letter from AOA stating the use of 1 qt /1000 miles is "within an acceptable range" What is not within that RANGE is the big question.

measured how much you drain. I don't think it has ever been established EXACTLY how much oil is drained out in an oil change. As I remember, it is somewhere between 9 and 10 qt. (quite a range there). Also there have been conflicting reports on the actual oil capacity of the engine. I remember that JDBLUE reported that there was close to 14 qts of oil in the crankcase, but only 9+ was drain-able, The rest was left behind in the oil coolers and galleys. Others have reported different capacities

so I drove on a business trip from Boston to NJ. At 830 miles my OIL LOW light came on. Dealer (service) said it was ok to drive the car to the dealership as long as the oil pressure light didn't come on.
Since I bought the car in late october, the car has been in the shop for a cumulative of 19-20 days. It will be there more with the oil consumption issue. grrrr... I'm getting really mad.
