Default Okay, having cold start issues....

Seems that its either the starter or a bad battery cell. Well its -15 degrees here so when i turned my key, nothing. Then i jumped my car and it did start. But last night, i turned my key 5 times or so and got nothing. Then the 6th time the car did turn over. So im thinking its a battery? Any ideas?

Default Re: Me too!

Hi,
I too have been having a cold start issue. With the temp at -5C (around 25F), I turn the key, and it does nothing for a couple secs, then will start fine. As it gets colder, I have to hold the key in the start position longer. For example, today it was around -20C (-4F), and I had to hold the key in the start position 3 times at around 30 seconds each before it started. Just to note, when it does start, it fires right up, therefore not the battery. I'm thinking bad ignition switch, or bad switch to the clutch pedal, or bad starter solenoid, I dunno something electrical though. I'm taking mine in to the dealer this Wednesday, I'll let you know if they find anything (it's already been in for this problem once before and they said it was fine)

It's been the starter for many. Search delayed start or clod start here and at AZ.

Default The weird thing is that when i plugged in my battery charger...

it immediately started, leading me to assume that it could be a faulty battery cell.

Default what you are experiencing is what i have come to expect as "normal" for my car...

this is only my second winter with the car and have had this problem several time although i have never had to boost the battery.

i have found that i have to hold the key in the start position for several seconds before the car will even attempt to crank...when if does crank it cranks over normally for the temps.

some days it cranks immediately, others i have waited 5 to 10 seconds. although it for sure is related to cold temps it is not consistant. this morning was -27 C and it cranked no problems. yesterday it was only -18 C and i counted to 3 before it cranked. go figure.

Default I'd suggest not holding the key in the start position for more than a few seconds at a time

If it's not a relay problem you could heat up the starter wires to the point they melt.
