Only $38K for 2004 S4? Is this true?

I'm planning to buy B7 S4 soon. However I still like current B6 S4 a lot (especially the silver one) so I decided to check some used ones. According to KBB the private party sale value is $40K and Edmunds says it is only $38K for only one-year old S4. It is almost 25% depreciation in only a year or less?! I can't understand it considering how nice S4 car is. What would be the B6's value when the brand new B7 comes out? Why such a big depreciation for S4? This really makes me think twice about buying a S4, or any Audi... My current car 2003 G35 coupe (2 years old with 15K miles) still can sell for almost 90% of my original purchase price...

I used to sell Audi's and they dont take care of the Audi customers most of the time. I believe Audi still does not make a top notch product and the customer service side is at the bottom of the barrel. I know that Infiniti takes care of the customer base and knows how to keep it also. As nice as Audi's can be, they still not compete with BMW when it comes to the customers being treated very well and marketing their cars better then Audi. When you buy a Audi, you buy it because there are alot more BMW's out there on every corner. Bmw's are more popular with people who want to show "I made it". Audi owners buy audi's because it has the best AWD system on the planet and plan on using the Audi in every season and want to be a minority when it comes to that type of car on the street and dont see a Audi every few minutes like alot other car makes. But which makes me think there must be a good reason why more people buy BMW's or other high-end cars other then Audi, because Audi has a bad reputation and still holds that bad reputation. My fiance has had her 00'S4 for 9 months and hates the car and the Audi company. The S4 has been in the shop 9 times and Audi is crap when it comes to customer service. That is my take and I'm sure there is alot of other people who share my view. Hope that helps.

And I have also a few BMW's (and Audi's). Both service centers ranked about the same in my book. I also disagree with your comment about audi making "a top notch product." Im sure I am not the only one who believes that BMW's have taken a turn in the wrong direction. Audi's interior quality is second to none - something I can't say about BMW. Maybe I dont care about showing that "I made it" all the time either.
I also don't understand the whole "bad reputation" persona you keep labeling audi with. Just because you had one bad experience with your fiances 2000 S4 does not mean every other Audi that comes off line is equal to the piece of **** you ended up with. My families have had Audi's (10) since 1980 and have never had a problem, so that whole argument about being in the shop 9 times means you either got the worst car in the bunch, or you fiance does not know how to take care of a car.
BTW, comparing your 2000 B5 and our B6's really makes no sense to me.

true because you used to sell Audi's. C'mon, that is totally ridiculous. Audi's are excellent cars, to make a blanket statement like you did is not useful.
