OT. After reading two new articles that test drove the new 997 GT3 I`m more desperate then ever ...

The new GT3 (997 model) is supposed to be even better
The new GT3 (997 model) is supposed to be even better and actually has some of the electronic safety stuff on it that mine did not. The electronically adjustable suspension (PASM) on the 997 GT3 is supposed to make it a great everyday car.
Here is my personal opinion on the GT3 vs. the Turbo
Normally aspirated vs Turbo - The GT3 is normally aspirated and great sounding (almost like a race car). The Turbo is a bit quiet for my tastes. It has more of an air flow sound. There is no experience like winding up a GT3 to its 8400 rpm redline. However, the Turbo is quite a rush as well.
Track - If you like to track the car, the GT3 will be a great experience. It is totally visceral. Basically it (RS version) is the car they have to build and sell in order to race, so you know all of Porsche's racing experience goes into the car. If you order the GT3 consider getting it with the Cup tires.
Engine block - I know the GT3 has race based engine block with a dry sump oil system. I don't believe the Turbo has the same block. I think it has the 3.8 liter from the Carrera S. If so, it most likely has an integrated sump, but I don't believe it is as affective.
Rear Seats - If you want to take your kids around in the car, the Turbo would be the ticket. The back seats are small but fine for kids probably up to about 10 years old. The GT3 has no back seats. They do this for weight savings primarily and it gives you more of the engine sound.
RS, RSR --I believe the GT3 models are as follows; GT3, GT3 RS (coming out in a year or so and is a more hardcore GT3 but street legal), GT3 Cup car (entry level race car, not street legal, just started racing this year), and the RSR. The RSR is Porsche's top of the line 911 race car. These cars race in the American Le Mans series and you will see them racing at Le Mans in a few weeks. The 997 version of the RSR won't be coming out until next year's race season. Presently all RSR's are 996 models.

yes, I guess I cant really judge until I try one out..but
after having the 996 GT3 and the Elise, I just love a bare-bones drivers car where I feel I have a direct connection to the road. Also, they are so nice to work on compared to cars like the S4 or Cayenne because they are "simple"

Just buy one and get it out of your system. I had 911's for 12 years.
My last was a C2 993. "I have a been there done that" when it comes to Porsche and I am not into a water-cooled 911. IMO they are nice but over priced in every aspect of ownership. If the Porsche bug ever bit me again, I would buy a 993 Turbo.

I have a 997 C2S (06) coming next week (or in two weeks) and everything that I have heard
about the PASM and other "electronic ****" makes the 997 the best Porsche ever. I have never owned a Porsche but haved always dreamed about it and decided to pull the trigger. I was very careful in my selection as I wanted a car that I would keep for a long time (I would like to give it to my son when he is 25, he is now 2).
I will let you guys know what I think of the car when I get it, and I am sure that it is going to be awesome, as my car guy took my S4 for a spin and told me he would be bored of it in 8 minutes and feels the 997 was the best all around car he has driven.
Jet, If you get to Vancouver look me up, I will take you for a ride (oh yeah did I mention the Evolution Motor Sports Stage III+ kit that is on the car 384HP 323 TQ)

Thanks for the invite. I`ll be flying to Victoria next week for a day or so. Close but yet so far...
Good luck with the P car. I only can dream about owning one of those one day.
