Goal is trying to get a tire that handles pretty damn well both the dry and the wet, but will last more then 10-12k miles like my crappy *** Conti's did. I am willing to do the Pilot Sport All Seasons since they are Y rated. I would sacrafice some grip in exchange for better wear....
I guess the bigger question is going with an all season versus the PS2 or the pilot sport, would it result in such a huge difference in grip?
Thoughts???
PS: I do have snow tires for the winter.... so traction at the time of the year is not really part of the equation.

If you are looking for a tire with decent dry grip, very good wet grip and good turn in characteristics PLUS good mileage, try the Dunlop SP01s. When I sold my Avuses my SP01s had 9900 miles on them and they looked almost brand new. I've had those tires on two cars and I loved them. I got 24,000 miles out of the set on my 5 series. I had the Pilot Sports on my 330 and I was not overly impressed. They were okay but side by side with the SPs on my 5 series, the Dunlops were a better tire, in my opinion.
I've got a new set going on tommorrow morning. My local shop matched tire rack's $171 price, no shipping cost.

would be the Mich PS A/S. I run it in the winter and F1's in the summer. I may go to the Mich PS or PS2 for summer track use. All great tires.

unless you drive like a grandma.
F1's handle exceptionaly well in the wet and very good in the dry but don't expect more than 15k from them.
All Season's are a compromise tire but many people like them because of the longer wear and low noise. There will be a significant difference in grip but whether or not you need it depends on your driving style. Defintitely do not go to the track with them.

I think they're both great tires.
I had Pilot Sport A/S on Lexus GS400. Although GS400 is a rear wheel drive, it has great traction on rainy days.
Now, I have GY F1 on my 2004 S4. It has great traction. I've driven on snow too. Good traction if you don't hit a sudden brake.
For all year round driving, I recommend that you get Pilot Sport A/S.

These are excellent "high-performance" all-season tires. I have about 10,000 miles on mine and run them on my car all year 'round. They came highly recommended by the owner of the tire place I go to (he uses them on all of his cars). They are also relatively inexpensive...much cheaper than Michelin Pilot Sports.
I don't track my car or drive super aggressively, but I do drive somewhat "hard" when cornering (on highway on/off ramps, etc.) and I am very pleased with the performance of these tires.

I had them on one of my cars and it hydro-planed every change they got - even when they were new. There is a big difference in grip between all-season and summer tires but some drivers will never notice. Whether you notice or not depends on how you drive.
