Default Power Steering Fluid

I STFA and found no defintive answer...
Hopefully someone knowledgeable can provide the correct information.

1. What type of PS fluid is provided from the factory? Is it mineral based (Pentosin CHF 7.1) or synthetic based (Pentosin CHF 11S) ?
Is it possible to distinuguish between the 2?

2. If the PS fluid in the car (provided by the factory) is mineral based, why do AUDI dealers only stock synthetic based PS fluid? Audi dealers only have the G002012 or G002000 - which is SYNTHETIC

3. If the PS fluid in the car (provided by the factory) is synthetic based, why does the cap on the PS resevoir indicate to *ONLY* use mineral hydraulic fluid?

4. And I guess this is the most important question of all - because if this is true, it kinda makes the above questions moot.
Can synthetic PS fluid and Mineral PS fluid be mixed without harming the PS and/or hoses?
My suspicion/feeling is that they should *not* be mixed.

BTW, I still occasionally hear a whining sound when turning even though my PS fluid is 10mm above the MAX mark.

The dealer had previously topped it off with synthetic fluid...

Default The PS fluid that Audi service gave me and put in my car is the G002012

I would have to believe that it is compatible with the factory fluid. Bottle says that it is a synthetic "blend". BTW, you can mix synthetic oil with dino oil and nothing bad happens.

Default Interesting.....

I would assume that the reservoir has the mineral based disclosure simply as legal jargon. It protects Audi in the case of any failure caused by a purely synthetic fluid. But then again what Audi puts in the cars, and what your dealer puts in them are totally independent of eachother.....ugh, yet another auto industry runaround. could just be oversight on someones behalf.

If the factory puts in mineral based fluid, then Audi dealerships are mixing them..

Default I received the same fluid - I hope it's compatible

I have heard mixing the fluids *may* cause issues with the hoses.... maybe shotening their life or causing leaks...

So why does the cap on the PS reservoir say *mineral* only ?
