Power steering noise
Had to take it in 3 weeks ago as it said I was low on power steering fluid, the message is the handbrake symbol that flashes and beeps 3 times.
When I called about the message they knew right away what it was and asked if it happened while turning right or going over a bump. Turns out when the fluid is low but above the line it does this in the above conditions.
So had it topped up, but now I definitely have a whine that wasnt there before and its especially noticeable when reversing up and turning the wheel.
Taking it in tomorrow to have it looked at and will report back what they say.
But the bonus is I get to take the new A4 2.0 for the day!!!!

They flushed the system and
replaced the fluid. They couldnt find any leaks but said there was air in the lines which could have caused the noise.
So they added some dye and asked me to come back in a month and theyll check the levels and see if they can find a leak.
Pisser about this is I just had my car claybarred and detailed and they washed it with what looks like a metal scouring pad! Now I have to go in and argue with them about fixing the paint grrrrrr!!!!!

They haven't yet found a leak on any of the PS units. Even though
they ALL lose fluid. I am not aware that there is a definitive answer as to where the lost fluid goes. Evaporation has been proposed but I don't think that theory has ever been proven,

My power steering reservoir...
was bone dry when I checked it after developing a noise under my hood and couldn't figure out what it was. The power steering never cut out but I had a nagging noise. When I checked everything, including the power steering reservoir, it was as empty as empty could be. I immediately drove to my dealer and had them fill it. I cannot believe that my car with 10K miles on it drank that much PS fluid.

Problem is that Audi knows about the problem but doesn't fix it.
Loss of PS fluid has been an issue with the b6/b7 S4s from day one. Audi's solution is to advise owners to fill the PS reservoir to 10 mms above the "MAX" line. That way it will be less likely to lose all the fluid and cause an issue as occcured in your situation. My dealer actually gave me a full bottle of PS fluid, it is cheaper to add additional fluid than it is to redesign the unit.
