Quattro as been in the Audi family for a long time. The real, main reason is that Quattro is a part of Audi's sport heritage. Sport versions of all Audis will have Quattro.
And what about RWD systems? Will they not handle 400hp? Maybe BMW should look into Quattro...

I think FtWorthS4 is right. It's part of Audi's Heritage. The AWD put them on the map, as they say.
If it were just an issue of FWD not handling 400HP, then AUDI could have just gone with RWD. Saves weight, money, and less parasitic drag!

Yes all audi's are FWD platforms. But FWD can handle well over 400hp. Look at the FWD drag cars the ricer drag guys in the NOPI drags use. You are talking into the 700+hp range. FWD can handle plenty of power. Audi share the same basic chassis design as all the VW FWD cars. The reason Audi use's quattro is because that is what makes them different from the rest in the market. If you really get down to it, we have bought an over priced VW(not complaining though). The quattro has it's advantages as well and is a plus in alot of situations. Audi will continue AWD in racing as long as it will keep them in the lead. When it no longer gives them an advantage or they feel they have proven their point they will pull out of that racing class. Audi was setting records in racing long before quatrro and they will continue to do so with or without quattro. But i agree that AWD will put the power to the ground alot more effectively than FWD. Look at it this way. The M3 is lighter and has around the same hp in europe but only has a small lead on the S4 in a straight line. To move this 4K pound beast through the 1/4 like that is impressive. If the S4 was FWD it would lose badly no matter if in the straights or in the twisties.
