Default It comes down to this...

many of us don't like the B6 or the direction Audi is moving with the S line. It my opinion, the B5 is too heavy...and subsequent models are just getting worse. Every iteration seems to be more of a compromise between sport and luxury. The B6 S4 to me is too similar to a A6 4.2 in looks and build. The B6 simply doesn't live up to our expectations.

It's the same as E39 M5 owners hating the new Bangle induced M5. They don't like it and it's saddens them to see the evolution. I have voiced my opinion on the B5 forum before, but NOT ONCE have I come here and "bashed" your cars. I will graciously retract that statement if proven otherwise.

It's not socioeconomic status or jealousy. Most of the B5 regulars are established professionals with solid educations. For many of us, the S4 isn't even our "nice" car. We could have a B6 if we wanted, but choose not to. The people drifting in because of the dropping resale prices are not even close to representative of the B5 group as a whole.

The B6 is a good car. I've said it before. It just isn't my taste or what I want Audi S cars to be. It's YOUR car and YOU like it. That's what's important. I don't care if you dislike MY car. In fact, I encourage you to share your opinion on it...good or bad. That's what a DISCUSSION forum is all about.

Default My personal issue is this....

B6 guys take themselves way too seriously.

This forum trusts tuners like they are Gods because nobody here has really been totally screwed by a tuner (yet). The old B5 guys who switched really should be conveying the fact that tuners ARE in it for the money. The fact that half the people here make claims about their cars but when you call them on it, you never get a clear answer ("well, the tuner claims it", "oh well, we need to dyno", "oh we never went to the track", etc.).

Track your car, post results. Dyno your car, post results. Provide video to kills, whatever. With some of the claims on this forum, I'd swear you are driving a McLaren F1. I've driven a Milltek B6...they are fast, but they aren't supercars, we are talking about almost 4000 pounds. I'm sorry you can't super mod your engines...but who has even tried...anybody crack the engine block open yet? The heads? Gone to an ENGINE tuner? Until that is done you aren't going to see really significant results.

That said, your cars are beautiful and I'd love to own one.

and I think you're on the money. Heads and cams are just what this motor needs. Look at the dyno. It's quite obvious that this motor makes power at the top of its rev range. Let's get a valvetrain that can breathe at 7500-7800 RPM...then we'll get to see what the B6 can really do.

Although personally I cant see doing that till I am out of warrenty. Unless there is some overwelming force that drives me to do it.

then eventually we just said screw the warranty. :-P

ok yes its gonna cost me the same price as the part to do the install but i would be hard pressed to say no.

I can find a guy in a beat up Civic that will smoke your ***. So, let's all sell our Audis and buy Civics. Honestly, I couldn't care less if your B5 S4 is an 11 sec car. I had a B5, loved it. I love the B6 more. If all I cared about was drag racing, I never would have sold the B5. For that matter, I never would have sold my AWD Talon.
