Is it really that difficult to upgrade our stereos?

I have the factory deck (non-Bose) and the local shop tells me that the computer and stereo are all linked up - only option is to splice in a sub woofer.
Anyone suggest a good aftermarket setup - i.e. headend unit?
I still love the sound of the V8 more but ... when its raining and windows up ... a good stereo is missing.
Cheers

Sound quality with the RNS-E is better. But if you want even better, replace the front factory tweeters and add a sub. Simple, cheap, effective.
