Not too difficult, you need to buy the covers and some bits of hardware to hold them in place. About $80 total. The attachment that goes onto the coolant tank is still a mystery, but a large socket head bolt fit the tank and seems to work fine on the driver's side cover.
EDIT:
Parts needed:
Passenger side:
Cover (1): 8E0 103 928
Ball-head screw (1): WHT 000 355
Hex Flange Nut (source locally,M6x25 I think) note: you will need to drill hole in firewall at opening in insulation to install the ball head screw and nut)
Driver's Side:
Cover (1): 8E0 103 927
Front bracket (1): 8E0 899 803 (and two poprivets to install this in existing holes)
Front and side (washer reservoir) grommet assy (2 of each needed):
Bush: 8E0 103 541
Grommet: 078 129 669
Spacer: 078 129 734
Bolt: N105 5381

What would be the purpose of this 'mod', if you could call it that? Not sure I get the point. Most B6 S4 enthusiasts simply want the visible V8 under that hood.
The engine covers on my B5 30V were nice, but this is another story entirely.

If the OP likes the look, don't rag on him. Its his car and it certainly will not look unusual.

The engine was designed to have covers (they were there on the 2004 models), that is apparent by the rather sloppy engineering around the coolant tank and PS reservoir. For a car that cost so much new, it seems cheap to leave all that stuff exposed. The "V8" aspect of the engine is still apparent, but what you don't see now are all the wiring, connectors, and piping that surround it.
One could ask the same question about a few mods:
Blackout grills
Euro-HIDs
etc.
Some like the look, some don't. I happen to like the engine cover look on the car and was disappointed when I found out the '05s had them deleted.
I detail my engine bay on all cars, and I think the Audi engine covers help with the appearance. My Mk1 TT is a prime example of an engine that benefits from covers. You remove the covers and detail the engine, then hit everything with Stoner Trimshine or Sonus Motorkote and you'll have a good-looking engine bay that will not need another treatment for two years or so. Also keep my hands cleaner when I'm in there wrenching around.
Oh, and it adds about 25 hp <g>

tank? That is the one piece I need and can't seem to find a part number.
