If the 997 is what you want, $80K isn't bad.
Sure, something like the C6 Corvette is much cheaper for much greater HP, but for example the Corvette just doesn't do it for me, plus then I have to deal with a Chevy dealer at each service; it's just not worth the headaches to try and get customer service from people used to people bringing in their Cavaliers...

the TL is not in the same class as an S4. I like the TL and my wife and I have/are considering one for her but it could not replace the S4 for how I use it. The TL is a very nice car and great value but, while quick, is not as rewarding or really capable of being driven hard.
Regarding the Roadfly post, at first I thought that he was simply not an enthusiast (owned a 325, not the 330) as most often than not, those folks can't or don't distinguish nor see the value in performance enhancements but he said that he owned an M coupe? Biased, ignorant, who knows?

The TL is a fantastic car for the money--a high value car. The S4 is just a fantastic car. I don't think too many people think it is a bargain though. I'd just say it's worth every penny.
You could use this guy's logic to say that Acura has no business charging $50,000 for the RL. After all, it's based on the same platform as the TL, has only 25 more HP, and is slower.
When you get right down to it, the best value out there is a $15,000 Civic--it does 90% of the things that an S-Class can do at fraction of the price. But to some people, the cost is second to enjoyment and driving is not just a way to get from A to B. This character obviously hasn't heard the phrase, <i>"It's not the destination, it's the journey"</i>.
