I have a 2005.5 S4, manual transmission, I've noticed recently that my 4th gear is a little bit 'tougher' to change into than all the other gears. Gear 1-3 and 5-6 are all seamless and smooth, but sometimes when I am changing from 3rd to 4th, there is an extra 'click' or stiffness when shifting into 4th, it is not as smooth or seamless.
As an example, when my car is idle, I press the clutch and shift into any of the gears to see how smooth it is. All the gears are smooth when shifting into them from idle (my parking brake is up and I am not letting go of the clutch, just simply shifting into that gear and then going back to neutral) except 4th gear. It takes some effort to go into 4th gear.
Is this something that is normal or has anyone else experienced this? Any light on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

You would be the first to report this problem.(Unless my memory fails me). Most shift problems ahve been with the 1/2 gear changes and having difficulty getting into reverse.

Hmm... these other people that mentioned shifting problems, do you know if the problem ever got fixed?

I actually experienced the same thing today...although my car only has 160 miles on it. I didn't sweat it because i figured it would loosen up as the car broke in. Just curious, how many miles are on your car?

I have 10,500 miles on it (bought by original owner in October '05), I purchased it from him 10 days ago.
The gear sometimes works fine, but sometimes it 'clicks' in when I'm shifting into 4th... it definitely doesn't happen with the other gears, just this one.
