Default S4 Avant order in DC metro area...

Any dealers who you guys would recommend? I spoke with Mike at Criswell in Annapolis and was helpful. I'm putting a deposit down for a Goodwood Green, alcantara, sport pkg., sunroof, Bose Avant. Tischer told me the US isn't getting the Avant so they will not get my business. Have any of you put deposits down yet??

Mid-Atlantic Exercise Equipment Specialists

Default This'll be my first S4, Audi and car in general...

Would anybody who has done so mind giving an overview of how the pre-order/deposit process works? I've had my eye on the B6 S4 Avant for a while now myself.

Way too soon to be putting money down on a car when one does not know the options or cost

Well, basically you want to find a dealer that is willing to put your name down on a list. It shouldn't be that difficult now that there's some solid info on the car available. The dealer will I'm sure ask you to put down a deposit, probably 2000$ or so. The important thing is, you're going to want the whole transaction as well as the contract that states explicitly where you are on their list for an S4 Avant written down and signed by the manager of the dealership. Don't leave without everything in writing, guaranteeing your position in the herd. This will hopefully protect you against those who show up later and try to skip the line by paying a premium on the car. Don't leave the dealer until you're satisfied! And don't let them try to push you around, as they love to do. Stand your ground; you're willing to spend a LOT of money, so they should be bending over backwards for you, not the other way around.

Well said. I'm about to go down Friday and put down a check for $500 but I want everything in writing before I leave or no deal. If it's not enough I'll go elsewhere. I wouldn't ask for paperwork if I wasn't serious. I'll send you guys some feedback. Thanks again.

Default I have yet to come across a dealer list that meant much of anything

...to anyone except those with their names on it. Nor have I seen dealers put themselves in a commitment-level position (i.e. any sort of guarentee in writing) when they have no guarantee that they themselves will ever even see many/any of the cars when they arrive (except on a order-only basis)...not to mention commit themselves to a price point well in advance of seeing where the market will be when these things finally hit the ground (obviously, this will be more true of the RS6, given the more limited build count). Dealers will be quite happy taking as many names and deposits as they can get their hands on - for the sole purpose of taking people off the market/i.e going to competitors for their car purchase. Reality is, you can get on any list anywhere, deposit or no-deposit, and you're rarely guarenteed a thing. They'll sell that sucker right out from under you in a heartbeat if it means an extra couple G's in their pocket. Then the excuses will come....limited allocation, they built the car wrong, Germany went on strike, et al. "But don't fret....one with your name on it is coming soon!" Please. EVENTUALLY, one will (hopefully) be able to pre-order at a fixed cost negotiated upfront (as you said, in writing from an officer of the company, etc.) if and when the market softens. But IMO, that's quite a ways down the road. I'm sure there are rare exceptions to this strategy, but for the most part, getting on any of these lists is far from bulletproof. Just my experience...not the gospel.
