Why would you expect that? No, it doesn't have M5 performance, but once you get 5K miles on her, the RS4 has an incredibly exhilarating engine. This engine just begins to breathe at 5000 rpm, and has one hell of a torque and HP boost at 5500 rpm, when the intake ram flap kicks over.
Having come over from a B6, I can say that you change your driving and shift style significantly with the RS4. Power is designed to come on above 4500 rpm, and is delivered smoothly all the way to redline. I've never felt an engine that winds out like this one does.

..... The dynamic ride control!!! I don't see how you could have missed that, unless you were just sitting in it, and not actually driving it.
The RS4 has almost no pitch and roll, as opposed to the S4. In my opinion, that's every bit as cool as the upgraded engine. I really pushed it when I was test driving one, and I was thoroughly impressed with the quickness of acceleration and the DRC.
I came close to buying a RS4. I saw one at the dealer with 1K miles on it, but they still wanted MSRP and I told them to forget it. I'd rather wait for the RS6. My dealer said that they should be taking pre-orders by the end of the year. He said that it would be sooner, but they want to make sure they sell out the 1st generation R8's before they start advertising the new RS6.
TT V10!!!!
