Default S4 lease

For those who lease, about what are you paying per month? I'm thinking about a 36 month lease with 12,000 miles per year. I have a 330Ci coming off lease and I think I've fallen in love with the S4. I'm currently paying right at $700 per month and would like to keep it close to that number. I've been working with a dealer in the Baltimore area and he's going to call me with some numbers on Monday and I'd like to have an idea of what others are paying.

If you go to edmunds.com, you can find the formula for computing lease values yourself.

I have a 12k*4year lease and my payments are around $820/month. Your 330 probably had a higher residual value %, the S seems to be taking a hit there b/c it's more extreme, less common, and thus people are willing to pay a premium for a new one that doesn't get realized in 3-4 years.

Also, you probably negotiated below MSRP on your 330, which you won't be able to do this soon on an S4. When you get below MSRP on a lease, you discount is twice as effective towards lowering your payment b/c you're only paying for half of the car in the first place.

The same is true if you increase your downpayment; it will lower your lease payment a lot. However, you should never do that because if it does (heaven forbid) get totalled, the gap insurance won't compensate you for you extra downpayment. Instead you just stick the money in the bank and use it to supplement your payment. I made a "virtual $5k downpayment" on mine, lowering my payment to about $720/mo. My real payment is as stated above, but the effective drain on my monthly income is the lower number, and if the unthinkable happens, I'll still have whatever's left over from it.

Oh, and also, the S4 is probably going to cost a lot more than the 330 in the first place.

This would be why I chose to buy an M3....

Residual value of M3 after 3yrs w/15Kmi -- 64%
Residual value of S4 after 3yrs w/15kmi -- 51%

The difference there if MSRP's are equal comes to about 200 bucks a month....

Made my decision a little easier to make....

Default Wow, that's an awesome residual

A quick look at edumnds' prices for 01 S4s and 01 M3 reveals $28k and $39k similarly equipped, w/ 36k miles (upgraded stereo, moonroof, a couple of interior amenities).

The 01 S4 probably cost about $42k new. I wouldn't know on the M5, but it's the same model as today, so I'd guess $55k. That's 66% for the Audi, and 70% for the bimmer. Seems the BMW name *is* worth something, although nowhere near as much as the differential we're seeing in today's residuals.
