Does anyone know if higher profile tires will fit on my 2004 S4 cabriolet? Stock tires are 40s on 18" wheels. I would like higher profile tires to improve the ride. Also, I am interested in tires with better tread life than stock and a more all season tread pattern.I could go with smaller wheels but am unsure if they would provide adequate clearance for the brakes. Any ideas?

if you are that concerned about the ride quality get a cheap set of 17s and go that route otherwise its kinda pointless.

ride and tire wear and can run them in the winter. I live in the pothole belt. I was running my stock Contis @ 35 psi to get a more compliant ride. These new all season Contis are better in every way as compare to the stock Contis, which are probably only better on the track. I run the all seasons@ 40 psi and they still give me a MUCH better ride than the originals. Increase in size to 245s gives more rubber on the road as well! Pirelli P zero neros M+S is also a great all season tire. Perhaps even slightly better than the Conti Extreme Contacts. If you are looking for a better ride and longer tread life , this is the way to go. No need to downsize to a 17' wheel . Plus unless you are in an EXTREME snow belt area, you can probably run them all winter.Btw you can probably run 235s and still get all of the benefits I have mentioned.

this car. It reads lower than actual. Larger diameter tire brings it closer to actual speed.

Do you actually drive on the snow/ice? (wondering if that's the reason to switch to all season)
If you want a quiet, comfortable ride, you could probably get by with putting Falken ST115s on your 18" wheels. They have a softer sidewall which results in a more comfortable ride at the same 235/40/18 size. They also have a high treadwear rating for a summer tire.
FYI the "stock" tire size for 17" wheels for your car is 235/45/17.
