Default S8 cross post: ESP vs no-ESP

Couple of turns using ESP and then with ESP disabled. Does disabling ESP affect straight-line acceleration?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omKcz-lbjVo</a

Default WTF? What strait line acceleration? He's in curves throughout the clip!

In the second pass by which is the run I assume ESP is disabled he seems to be coming in hotter and no where near the same entry line into that turn. He breaks the car's rear end loose (or perhaps the car did it for him) and then he power slides it through the rest of the turn.

That's not ESP breaking the rear end loose he is on the power going through it. Disabling the ESP in this case allows him to power out because most of the traction controls are disabled (except for EDL).

The real ESP or stability control would only intervene under braking if it felt its parameters were exceeded.

Default

Yeah, what he said. That's a burn if I ever saw one.

Default I agree, strange ESP programming

I have found this with both my previous A4 and my new S4. If you are coming up to perhaps a 90 degree turn and you downshift to first, then decide to romp on it just after the turn as you are straightening out, the ESP will kick in and severely inhibit your acceleration.

I have also seen a couple of times in my S4, when accelerating in a straight line, in first gear, my S4 will flash the ESP and slow me down. This I don't understand. I now find myself disabling the ESP if I know I want to romp on the S4 in first gear.

To my mind, this should not happen in a straight line, dry pavement and first gear.

Any other inputs on this are appreciated.

Default It seems you guys don't understand the whole ESP system. In your case it is traction control...

That was cutting in to prevent wheel spin.
