Default Scanned Auto Zeitung Road Test: S4 vs. M3

Interesting thing to note is that the S4 was faster to 100km/h than the M3...

BTW, they're not in english so if someone could translate them that'd be great. =]

0-100 km/h in 5.3 !!!! Sweet !!!! Seems like a flat 5.0 for 0-60!

Default sorry, but those m3 numbers are way off ...

the driver must've been bordering on incompetent to be more than a half-second slower than the widely-published (and obtained) numbers of 4.7-4.8 seconds for 0-62 on the m3.

Default umm, what?! 2 mph difference can't shave off .3 seconds

what are you smoking?

Default 4.7 - 4.8 was 0-60. Add a few tenths for the 0-62.

I agree the M3 numbers seem somewhat off, but very promising for the S4 numbers.

At any rate, I still think the S4/M3 head to head is still apples & oranges.

Default no, it was 0-62 ... let me dig up the magazine clipping

btw, i love all these made-up adjustments -- lessee, i subtract .3 seconds for the s4, add .2 seconds for the m3, and now look at the s4 just walking the m3 ;-)

fun with numbers.

Default Well the artcile doesn't say at what altitude or temperature those numbers were...

...achieved at. So really, you have no idea if those numbers are off - for all you know they did those numbers on the top of a mountain in 100F heat.

I think it's probably better to look at those numbers as being an indication that, with everything being equal, the S4 and M3 will be very close in straight line acceleration.

Default Road & Track tested it 2/01. 0-60 was 4.7 sec.

"Acceleration numbers are obtained using drop-clutch starts and lift throttle shifts." No doubt that you'd have to somewhat abuse the car to get a 4.7.

Perhaps the Auto Zeitung guy didn't know how to drive or didn't know the best shift points.

Default do you think the folks testing the s4 are babying it?

that's the way magazines drive cars -- all times are obtained by pounding the car senseless. anyway, there was a more recent test run by a european magazine that got 4.7 seconds in a 0-62 run. i'm still trying to find the post that had the clipping.
