seems like B6 S4 is no quicker than the B5 (0-60, 1/4 mi)- is that true?

Maybe a B6 S4 will make it to Laguna Seca this weekend.
While my car is retired from track duty, I would guess that Pete Solari will be there with his laser red B5 sedan. As I recall, he has a GIAC chip and a Milltek exhaust.
Anyway, if one of you B6 guys is there, we could learn the answer to this question pretty easily. You and Pete could do a lap together so that you both come out of turn 11 at the same time (or thereabouts). Whichever one of you gets to the bridge first is the faster car (that way we don't even have to worry about someone chickening out at turn 1 and not staying on the gas all the way to turn 2).
If that doesn't work out, you could just line up in the paddock over by turn 10 and have at it.

Your idea isn't valid
Umm...I won't be down there for sure, mm doesn't own a b6 s4.
Then we have the whole driver issue, you can figure this one out...Unless you mean for Pete Solari to drive both cars...
3rdly, and the main point...you sent a b5 with a chip alone will be noticeably faster.
I don't think this is true. Someone care to do the math for us?

I disagree. The math seems to back me as well.
Using MTM's figures, Pete's car with a chip and exhaust probably makes 320 hp and weighs about 3500 pounds. A stock B6 makes 340 hp and weighs about 3800 pounds. This works out to a little over 9 hp/lb for the B5 and a little under 9 hp/lb for the B6. When this is coupled with the B5's torque advantange (~375 lbs versus ~300 lbs), it will be faster. It is for this same reason that a B5 S4 can take a non-turbo 993/996 off the line.
Otherwise, driver skill has little to do with the test that I am suggesting. It is pretty much a drag race. Turn 11 is a very slow second gear turn onto the main straight. It is a pure horsepower/torque test. And again, if that does not work out well, they can just line up on the side of the paddock and have at it.

Once again, you said chip alone.
Chip alone should be on par with the s4, and it will definitely not be "noticeably faster." I do not agree with your initial claim that a chipped b5 will be noticeably faster.
