Serious Question: Why pay $10-12K extra for the B6 S4 over the B6 A4 3.0 Q Ultrasport
I configured a 2004 A4 3.0 Quattro 6sp Ultra Sport at about $40K. It looks just as nice as an S4 IMHO, yes, it doesn't go as well..but I now have a race car for track stuff...and it is much better for off track excursions anyway...Anyway, just what differences are there to justify the additional $10K. The difference between the B5 S4 and B5 A4 2.8 was no where near this much IMHO..and the B5 A4 2.8Q was not close to as nice as the B6 A4 3.0 Ultra Sport.
I am considering the B6 A4 3.0 ultra sport..but will probably be passing on the S4 since I can't justify the difference in pricing. It is just more bang for the buck...
Just curious what your opinions are. I know this is a B6 S4 forum..so I am probably gonna get a biased answer..but I am still interested in your feedback.

It's definitely an interesting point. and one I'm surprised doesn't get more debate
but I'd relagate it to the comparo between a BMW 330 and an M3 type of discussion.
I love my current S4, I'm waiting for my new one (March).....
but unlike you I don't have a "track car" (boy that'd be nice) but I guess it'd be something I'd consider much more so if I did have a "play car" and the S4 wasn't my ONLY car.

Serious Answer: Drive both and you'll know why...
When my S4 was in for service, I got an A4 3.0 tip to drive for the day. Granted it wasn't the ultrasport, but the engine was a dud compared to the S4. The A4 is a fine car, but isn't in the same league with the S4.
Do yourself a favor and drive both before you make the decision. If you can afford the S4, it's worth every penny. IMHO of course....

I'm driving a 2004 A4, 3.0 w/manual as a loaner right now and there is no comparison
It is like night and day. Power, handling, the seats. I can't wait until I get my baby back.
The S4 is the car for the enthusiast, if you can affod it.

yep, you got it! I had such a blast at that event (you had the BMW there that day IIRC?)
I met you briefly as Ben, Josh, Leslie and I all all drove down from Seattle.
Man do I love that track!
