Default service question on 05S4

i had my car serviced at 5000 miles. dealer told me to come back at 15000 miles, and the maintenance book seem to say the same. but the info center in the car now says "service" at 10000 miles. does this mean i should bring it in and pay for it myself, or is the dealer BSing.. thanks.

Default Your warranty will only cover the service at Audi's recommended intervals.

But most here are doing an oil change at 10k on their own dime. 10,000 miles is just too long to go before changing your oil. Do it every 5k.

Default That reminder is mileage based...

meaning it it's set to pop up X miles after the last time it was reset. In your case, apparently X = 5000 miles. Or maybe X = 10K miles, and they just forgot to reset it at the last service interval.

Default the ECU needs to be re-coded....

The service reminder at 10k is bogus. The right interval is 5k, 15k, 25k, etc.

I think there's a TSB for this...

If they are using Mobile 1 synthetic 10k is not bad at all.

Default I have 45k on my car and still get the notice every 5k. Most here have same issue, if you want to..

call it that. It will go away in a couple hundred miles. No matter how many times my dealer clears/resets it keeps coming back.

Default Mmmm, I would tend to disagree on that Stood.

In our engine, considering the heat generated and the rpms that we frequently see, 10k is not good. Considering the cost of doing an oil change, it's cheap insurance. I know some car makers don't have a problem with that long of an interval, but, I just couldn't do that to my engine. Going from the industry standard 3k to 5k was bad enough. Synthetic or not, look at your oil after 5k miles... You don't want that in your engine. Just my opinion.

Default 15k the current recommendation on the Porsche 996/986

and I believe it went up to 20k for the 997/987.
