Default do you mean if you shift hard and **** pops off?

because that's happened to me a couple of times... I think that the zip tie that they give you to hold the **** on is kind of a **** poor design!! I've been meaning to get a better clamp but I keep forgetting until it pops off.

Default Re: Short Shifter is Loose.

WHEN I SHIFT THROUGH THE ACUAL GEARS THE SHIFTER ROCKS FROM SIDE TO SIDE. OVERALL, THE SHIFTER HAS TOO MUCH FREE FLOWING MOTION WHEN IT IS IN GEAR. AND WHEN I SHIFT FROM 1ST TO 2ND HARD, THE STICK TRYS TO lightly PULL FORWARD TO NUETRAL. NOT FOCEFULLY THOUGH..

Thanks for the reply Jamie.

Default This is because you didnt tighten it all the way....

not a design issue an install issue.

Default It sounds like a bolt may have loosened somewhere...

when installed properly, there should be very little play/slop in the shifter.

Give me a call if you need.

Default you're welcome, but I haven't experienced what your saying...

I personally think it could have a tighter feel overall but it'a a huge improvement over stock!! Then again I came out of a Viper and into my S4 so almost any gearbox would have felt a little "loose".

I'd have to say that the only thing I liked better about my 2000 S4 over my 2004 would be how the gearbox felt. I had a Neuspeed short shifter in my old one and that thing felt incredible.

Default correct I have installed many of these.... I know I had my lower bolt come loose the first time I...

installed mine but a little lock tight fixed this. Its either the lower bolt to the linkage is loose or the lower bolt on the elbow is loose. My guess is the elbow if its while the car is in gear.

Default Greg, how much side to side play would you say there should be?

I know it has to move a little bit and I think the short shifter cut down all movement alot over stock and overall it feels great but I was suprised to still feel the side to side play in mine after I installed it and, yes, all the bolts are tight and it was installed correctly.

thanks!

Default here is my take....

the is play in the elbow and there is play in the linkage. Play in the linkage is not something that can be fixed really, as long as everything is tight its just the way audi designed the car from there. Play in the elbow comes from the bolt not being right. That can be eliminated to about zero as long as you use lock-tight to keep the bolt from loosening itself.

Default The zip tie thats included should be able to hold the shift ****

snugly. I use a pair of pliers to get the zip tie as tight as possible. The only other option is to use an Audi single use only hose clamp (which of course requires a special tool)
