Default Sideview mirror tilt down question.

When the sideview mirror control **** is set to "R" and you go into reverse the sideview mirror should drop down to a curb view. Shouldn't it return to normal postiion when you the transmission is switched out of reverse? In order to get mine back to normal position, I have to set the control **** back to the neutral positiion. Anyone else have this issue, or is this normal operation? The owners manual makes it sound like it should switch back when the car is put into any forward moving gear.
The wife likes to use this feature, and believe me anything I can do to save my wheels!

Default This is how mine works on the B6 S4...

Button in the right position. The mirror drops down in reverse but will only return immediately in "P" or will return in a few seconds in "D." It has been consistent for the past 12k miles and I assume this is how it should work.

Ahhh, I haven't started to drive with it tilted down yet. That must be it.

Default The reason is

that you could be doing a more complex parking maneuver, going forward and backward a few times, and then the mirror would be just bouncing up and down. This way it stays there until it's clear you are done.

I have seen it come back up on its own when parked, with manual tranny. Don't know how long it waited, though =)

Default Thanks for the explanation. It does work as stated, I drove forward, rather than waiting

for it to adjust back.

Default Try a BMW to see how theirs works.

My wife has 3 series and her car when put in D the mirror goes right back to it's original position.

Have to give Audi credit here.
When I am in the BMW going back and forth to park it drives me crazy with the mirror going up and down.

The Audi keeps the mirror down for a while and lets you park without the motor making a racket going up and down.

So it is a very nice little feature.

Default When you reach 6 MPH or so.....

My 2003 A4 the mirror dips when in reverse. When you drive forward and reach a preset speed (about 6 MPH) the mirror will tilt back up. I have read this in the manual and that is exactly the way it operates as long as the mirror adjustment **** is in R
