Default Since there have been all of these posts about the RS4...

I may get stuff thrown at me for this, but here goes... The ever-increasing amounts of HP and TQ is getting to be a bit ridiculous especially if you live in the US. Don't get me wrong. I like to have plenty of HP and TQ available to me, but these cars pumping out 500+HP and 400+TQ puzzle me. I very rarely can use all of what I have now in the S4. If I lived somewhere that did not restrict speed or I was a track guy then I could understand it, but for those of us who live in the US and never track it seems ....well pointless. Ok..... fire away. I am already taking cover.

Default It's all about being one step ahead of the Jones's...

When that 2 lane is merging to one, and Mr. Jones is next to you.. you gotta take him.

It's not about top speed, it's about how quickly you get to it.

Default The cars are getting heavier too...so that offsets some of the gains.

The only thing I've ever driven that seemed like overkill was the Viper. However, I think it seemed that way due to the fact that it was unrefined. I'd love to have a Porsche 997 Turbo w/ 480hp and AWD or an Audi Le Mans w/ 420hp...maybe the difference is the AWD and vehicle dynamics.

Default you are right, but we are bored and have nothing better to do with our time other

than build and brag about our big dicks. I have to agree that most people focus on HP, like the M3 guys or most of the B5 guys and even some B6 guys. But really HP to get a car to move in a straight line is ghey. That isnt a real race. It does take skill to launch and shift and hold the car straight haha but the track is much harder to win races and HP or torque doesnt necessarily decide who wins.

Default heh, I've been WAITING for a post like this.... here goes! (duck!)

yeah honestly, I'm with you.

like sure it's awesome, but um, how "often" can you truly use it?

ok let's just agree to skip that argument.

let's go with this one.

so if the b4 s4 was a turbo 6
the b5 s4 was a biturbo 6
the b6 s4 was/is a v8

does that mean the b8 or b9 will be a tt v10?

I don't think so.

it just cracks me up that at somepoint the thought of the "next " version of the s4 in 2029 will NOT have a Rolls Royce f-16 engine in it.

just funny as all these RS4 posts are just like (what about relability?( um it's not out yet?

what about pricing.. um not really out yet...

um what about mods for it... (you can see where I'm going with this eh?)

honestly, no one knows, at least for now.

think of how much changed from "what was thought, to what IS" with the b6 s4's.....

I guess it's being jaded on this forum to post like this but surely some of the questions around the RS4 are pretty halarious considering no one really knows much....

ah well end of rant,

ok, so what's my point?

simple: the bigger better faster rule will end at some point. it always does look at the hp hungry cars of the 70's.... then the 80's... and now it's cycling again..

sure it's cool to have a 500 v10 M5, but that doesn't mean the next version will have a tt v12 if you catch my drift....

Default You'll never "win" that race. No saying you specifically, just a generalization

Someone will always have something better and faster.
