Default Majority of europeans drive gas sippers, or compact diesels for that very reason.

The well off drive the guzzlers. Nothing like we see in the US, where every idiot has a 6 mpg SUV or truck.

I'm not saying I want to see the end of the hp wars, but I understand they will have to end at some point.

Default In total agreement here.

I love the look of the RS4, and I'll admit that I'll probably give it serious consideration, but all of the HP wars are pretty ridiculous to me, for exactly the reasons you stated.

On the other hand, these manufacturers (well the German ones, anyway) could probably legitimately claim that their vehicles are designed for high speed use, and who are they to **** against the wind if us crazy Americans, who have more money than good sense, want to buy them too?

Default The horsepower race of the 60's teaches us one thing...

More power is good. People (and I think especially Americans) lust for power.

I love my S4's 340hp. And feel like you do, in that, I don't ever feel like it's not enough. But at the same time, if you're offering me more power, I'm gonna take it. I WILL use it. Just like I use the 340hp now. With discretion, but it will get used and appreciated.

Like with sportbikes. Every year the manufacturers come out with faster and faster bikes. Some of them can already run high nines in the 1/4 mile. But they still just keep getting faster. Speed and acceleration are a thrill. That's why you bought an S4. 240hp would have been quick... but it wouldn't have been enough. You wanted more of that thrill.

More power is a preference to some and an obsession to others. To each his own I say.

Yea, I wouldn't doubt that. But it is lighter than the S4. How much did the old RS4 weigh?

Default There's never enough power for enthusiasts..but I say they have to teach you to drive when you own

anything with a weightower ratio under 10 lbs per 1 hp!

Why? I saw some guy in an SL65 nearly kill himself while trying to take a quick left turn to beat oncoming traffic in the rain, a few weeks ago in LA. Too much power he doesn't understand he has, and ESP kicked in and had him bog completely in the middle of Wilshire with oncoming traffic having to slam on their brakes.

He just stayed in place because he floored it and esp kicked in. Moron.
