Default Sorry. I reviewed the confusion about my posts on floating calipers...

and floating rotors. We have floating rotors
already...along with the the "dreaded floating
calipers" that some think are a mismatch.
My apologigies.

Default Our rotors do not float.

They float if the wheels are off, but as soon as you tighten them down the rotors become fixed.

Default Except..that is not the definiftion of a floating rotor. A floating rotor..

is separate from the hub.

Default My definition of a floating rotor is one that floats. [edit]

[edit] okay maybe that was a little blunt...allow me to rephrase: "I respectfully disagree, sir".

Default And it does...if you remove the wheel and caliper...and then can..

slide the rotor off freely...it's floating.

Default Do you drive around without your wheels and calipers?

The floating rotor we were all talking about is one that floats when it's actually being used, like the rotors on most newer motorcycles.

Our rotors, of course, will float if you take off what secures them--as will anything else--but while in use, they do not float and therefore there are no compatibility issues (floating rotors + floating calipers).

Default You missed the point of the discussion from a few weeks ago.

Some company (ECS I think) was marketing a new "floating rotor" that actually floated while being used. There was concern that these rotors would not get along very well with our floating calipers. Our stock rotors are rigidly mounted when being used and therefor are not relevant to that (and this) discussion.

Default Sokay. My 4.2 A6's sticker said "floating brake discs". I haven't seen my S4's

brakes to be any different, other than HP2 calipers and rotor size.

Default

I might have. I thought they were thinking the separate rotor hat made it float.
