sport mode on tiptronic is so much faster than d, anyone know the gas mileage?

Don't ask how I came up with that figure, b/c I just pulled it out of hat. S does eat up a lot of gas though, not to mention unnecessary wear and tear on the engine if drive all day or all week long in it.

This is the opinion of someone that does not generally race around on public roadways. So take it FWIW.
If I'm cruising around town in D on 100% surface streets (some hills, stop and go, etc.) I probably get getting 14 to 16 MPG (being realistic). When I drop into S, we're talking 8 or 9 MPG on the "current trip" reading; and it averages to that very quickly. So, when driving here-and-there in suburbia and in the city, I use S as a downshift passing/quick acceleration tool--NOT for casual driving from stop to stop. I know: Boring.

launch on the same day. I think that would shed some light on whether S mode affects the 0-60 or 1/4 mile runs. Clearly you demonstrated it has no effect on trap speeds. Otherwise I thought the results you got were interesting especially concerning the effectiveness of a brake torque launch.
