Default The start of tranny problems? Need your help guys....

My wife has been doing most of the driving the last month since I picked up the S4 after early trade in on our allroad. Yesterday, I was in "S" mode, launched it at a light and the tranny would not make a gear change from 2nd to 3rd until I slipped it into "D" to get it out of gear. Then, I start to notice a whining noise from the trany. I've got a service scheduled for other issues (window tint bubble, Alpine Nav install and phone cradle install) on Tuesday. Is this something that may have thrown out some error codes and can be picked up on VagCom? Is this the start of waiting for a new tranny from Germany? Need some help from you guys that have gone through the tranny nightmare.

Default It is possible that there is an overrev code in the transmission module, but it is low percentage

if you did not get thrown into limp mode. Wouldn't hurt to check if you have access to VAG-COM before service.

Default Hmm, not sure about this one, but I'll say the Sport program for the RS 6...

is *VERY* aggressive. If I have been driving "spiritedly" it will hold shifts at the red for what seems like a long time, but will shift. I wonder if you would have left it in "S--and kept on it--it would have shifted on its own.

Yup, all late model Tips will autoshift at a given rpm if left in "D" or "S".

Default Did you inadvertantly hit one of the paddles?

That would hold the gear until you hit the paddle again, or whatever time frame before it reverts back to the S or D mode?

Default It was *real* hard ;-), no p-shop trickery...

Rest sunglasses on something eye-level, position car for good reflection, take picture of sunglasses. Viola!

I did use p-shop to drop out the background though.

If I wasn't the lazy tool that I am, I would have at least cleaned my glasses first, you can see sand gunked around the nose-piece. ;-)
