Starting the engine- concerns

Hello!
Please let me know if you have any ideas what is going on with my car...2005 S4 w/ 24Kmiles on.
1. When I start the car in the morning, and I turn the key 3/4 way -- as the fuel pump gets activated, instead of a nice/fluid noise I hear a clicking noise, almost like a relay type of noise. It happens on and off...it tends to happens more when I do not drive the car for a day or two
2. After the car is being parked for a day or two, as the engine starts there is a rattling noise coming from under the hood. It is not the high-pitched rattle that one used to get on old cars due to mis-timing relative to the quality of fuel...it is a rather low frequency rattle. It happens only for the first 1-2 seconds and then it goes away.
Any ideas what could be the cause?
Thanks,
Nick

My car has the same noise, just as I start it that noise lasts for about a second. I'm not sure what it is but it seems to happen with most of these cars.

Item 7 in the top pic, 2 per engine
Lower pic shows how it works, oil fed solenoid so perhaps it needs oil pressure to wake up?
Item 9 is actually a filter for the device so keep your oil clean!
Just my ghetto guess but I think it's correct.
