Default Suspension Advice

I'm looking to get a better but not too stiff ride for my B6-S4. I have a totally stock suspension...with the exception of new upper control arms which I replaced with a better part. I just discovered I now need to replace my lower control arm too. My question is what can I do to my suspension to make it better/tighter without getting a overly stiff ride. Is a sway bar upgrade a good idea with a stock suspension? Coilovers? Also, when is it called for to get an alignment? Thanks you guys have been so help helpful every time I ask a question.

From my experience, any time that you alter the suspension at all you need to have an alignment performed immediately afterward.

Because the S4 has a relatively sporty/stiff suspension setup from the factory, most modifications that are performed with reputable quality products shouldn't affect your ride quality too extremely.

If money is no object, it's tough to beat a good set of adjustable German coilovers installed by someone who's familiar with adjusting the height correctly. I'm running less expensive Japanese Tein coilovers on my B7 and they feel pretty damn good. When I have my family in the car they can bottom out on the rears a bit, but they're set pretty low for aesthetics.

If you want to go with a spring/strut combo, you might look into H&R Sports or Neuspeed Sports. KW's make a decently priced coilover set I believe as well.

You could just replace your springs and leave your stock shocks/struts to tighten it up a bit and lower the stance a bit, but if you have over 40k miles, you're better off just replacing eveything...

The sway bar upgrade won't be felt so much under your fingertips at the steering wheel, but can help solidify your steering if you go with a bigger wheel set.

good luck...
