Default Sway bar discussion and decision point. A few weeks ago we had a brief disussion on sway bars....

Also running discussion on sway bars occurred in mid-year in this forum. I need some clarification. It appears that for occasional road course performance driving (no autoX) that a rear bar (Nuespeed) could reduce understeer a bit...OR...H-sport has a f/r "Sport" kit that increases front dia 60%, rear dia 70%, increasing roll stiffness all around, biased to the rear to (again) decrease understeer. I believe I read that several people HAD the H-sport kit but replaced it with the Nuespeed rear only. If so WHY? Are there any arguments for/against the H-sport Sport kit keeping in mind that I'm on a road course 4-5 times per year and the car is a street ride all other times.

Default From what I understand from other people and with my A4

When I do sways it will be the rear only, if you do the H-sports both front and rear you will reduce the sway but the car will still have the understeer. With just the rear the car will lean more towards oversteer, as on the A4 wiht just the neuspeed rear you could get the rear end to step out.

H-sport has increased the rear 10% over their front to decrease the understeer.

Default We'll need more than that. I have their 24mm bar only on my rear...

and have the front sitting on the shelf. It was the only way to get the large of a rear bar. I've had the other front/rear setup that does 60% increase to front and 150% increase to rear and I still needed more. Now, I am at about 200%+ rear only and it is better. cheers! mike

I see the Nuespeed is a 24mm bar too, so the H-sport set will not reduce understeer as a set.

Default Ah, my confusion abounds. So in reality, it's as 'bhvrdr' says, that the rear needs to be ..

significantly more "stout" than what H-sport kit provides for the front. So then to increase the rear to 24mm, leave the front stock, the understeer will be reduced, and "turn-in" might be a tad crisper, but, not as much unless the fronts are increased requiring a much stiffer rear bar and then we have another dilemma...reinforced anchor points.
I follow what's going on....'I think'.

That is what I did on my TT, and it was perfect...so I will only do the rear on my S4 also.
