Re: Very good point! We're somewhat limited to 92 here in the US
I can get 100 at my local Citgo gas station and at other locations around town, but for $3.99gal. Other choices are the local track up to 116octane $5.99gal. Or the cheap way a bottle of octane boost.

There has been a shift at Audi now the Audi RS models need to be compared with BMW M and AMG.
With the advent of the RS6 being brought to the states, the RS lineup will now need to be compared with these fellow German automakers sport lineups. Audi S-line is somewhere in between. Notice the RS6 gets compared to the M5, not the S6. The S4, while a very capable vehicle, is not the M3 killer. The RS4 is, or will be, as the case may be, the Audi contender to "beat" the M3. The old RS4 was a very capable powerhouse before the E46 M3 even arrived, it has sick performance, and it was a wagon to boot. Since it was a Euro only model it wasn't compared to the M3 in the US, so the fight fell to the S4. Basically waht I'm getting at is keep an eye out for the RS models as the M and AMG killers, but beware the next gen M3 V8.

A Yamaha R6 does much quicker but do you see them trying it in the Snow or rain???
who cares about the M3, try it in the snow or rain and it will be in the ditch, while the Audi's are passing it.

While a valid statement, doesn't really fit into the argument that you are trying to provide a
counter example. From the majority of the threads I have seen, the main point (if any) is that the I6 has problems stock. That is where the untunability argument is going. Sure, I can just get 12" wheels. Sure it is an easy and cheap mod, but it doesn't fit into the norm of easy/cheap mods -- air filter/pulley/exhaust/chip...

personally, i don't buy the whole "engine is at the limit" thing either ...
yes, there were problems with the engine, no doubt ... but the data indicates that this was due to production problems, rather than inherent engineering issues -- and the m3 csl is proof: it puts out ~360hp with the same engine.
