Default Timing belt

I was wondering if any of you guys changed the timing belt for our cars? I have over 80000 miles and the dealer suggested that I change it after 70000 miles?

Default Uh, the 4.2 has chains, not belts.

The only S4 engine with belts is the 2.7T (B5).

Hmm.. I don't know what my dealer was talking about then. I guess there's nothing to be replaced after 70000 miles? I already asked this question but noone seems to know. Well, thanks for your input.

Its your mulit rib serpentine style belt. Probably a good idea to change out.

Default There has been some debate on the B6 S4 forum as to whether

the timing CHAIN needs to be replaced at 70K. Timing belt chain TENSIONERS actually MAY need to be replaced.

Thanks.
I guess I'll just have to discuss more with my dealership to see how much it costs and if I DO NEED to change the parts.. because recently, my engine began to make some sort of whining noise.. very quiet, but it's still there.
Anyways, thanks for your input.

Default save your breath, doc is full of crap and is incorrect yet once again

75k gets a serpentine belt for the generator, not a timing belt, chain, or tensioner

Rubber belts like serpentine / a/c belt should be replaced around that mileage...

Default Whining has been a common problem with this engine.

Most likely cause is the pulleys. There was a TSB for this on the 04 B6s. I had my pulleys and tensioners replaced twice to get rid of the whine. Characteristically, the whine disappears around 3k and is heard when the temps get cold. Not evident in warm weather.
