Should be low 170's, stock, just about at redline in 6th gear.

Same as a B5 id think the extra displacement would help some..is it the gearing?

Displacement will get you there faster but ultimately it's gearing that limits you.

...it's pretty much just a coincidence that the gearing on the B5 and B6 S4's are so close for maximum top speed if given enough horsepower. The difference is that a stock B6 has enough horsepower to get right around the top of its 6th gear and a stock B5 S4 does not. A modified B5 S4, however, can go plenty fast. I've been 180mph in mine! :-)

noice didn't think it could go above 175 due to aerodynamics only been 165... stg 2 though

Autocar Magazine roadtest (always thorough in their testing) in the UK recorded 164 mph. They had not removed the "limiter". Perhaps it is a bit of a myth to comply with the agreement in Germany to "limit" their cars to 155.

The speedo tends to get much less accurate at those speeds.
