Well here's what we did in that space. We welded a 1/8" thick steel plate so that the down brace could be welded on to them.

Rear main hoop and its attachment point on the floor just ahead of the rear seat position. Another 1/8" thick steel plate was used to secure it to the chassis.

Main hoop going forward and down past the dash position.

Side shot of the forward part of the main hoop. Notice Audi's own internal cross side brace (shiny black) that sits within the dash area. It is a rectangular box that makes the total width of the car and it is very solid. No wonder these cars are safe.

Why? There is nothing to break or fail anymore! It's the totally 100% reliable Audi. :-)
