Default V1 Instrument Panel Install [BW Warning]

I have had the Automotive Data Research V1-CAN module for a month now and finally had some time to install. Here are the major steps as I did mine. BTW, I previously had the V1 remote just sitting on top of the stearing column so I had most of the V1 part done already.

1 - Remove radio head unit. Insert the tool in each slot until it clicks. Apply pressure toward the outside of the radio using the tool and pull.

I just disconnected the one connector with the CAN bus so I wouldn't have to enter my radio code. The two wires in the middle are the CAN bus wires.

Rather than using a wire tap or cutting, I just removed the insulation around each.

and soldered the V1-CAN wires in.

I then taped and wire tied the individual wires then the bundle and plugged it back in. The V1-CAN module tucks into a space to the right and below the radio.

I checked it out by observing the display when the V1 was powering up.

Hopefully these pics post - I was in a hurry and downloaded straight to photobucket rather than reducing image size and putting them on AW.

Default http://www.caughtbluehanded.com/

Not the easiest site to navigate but go to their store link - walk through buying one and there is a pulldown that shows if it will work with your car.

V1 - CAN

Where do you have your V1 mounted?

Above the rear view mirror - I wish the V1 was smaller for more mounting options

Default Thanks, a few more questions. I was going to order this but had some

questions. Mine is in about the same location. Where did you tap into for power I went to the sunroof panel for power. So all my connections are there just wondering where you ran your wires for power and the ones for the display.

TIA.

Default Nice job - but just for future reference...

Soldering to a car's wiring harness is not recommended. Shorts can cause the solder to melt and drip on to other places causing further shorts and general mayhem.

It's better to use those little splicing clips you can get at any auto parts store.

Default I tapped power at the fuse panel...

that's also where I mounted the power adapter so it was pretty easy to run the cable to the remote (which was on top of my steering wheel housing) and then just relocate it to behind the radio for the V1-CAN adapter.

Default The website shows a lot of other wires comming off the unit, but your post only shows

you connecting the blue and the white. What about the others? I have an 04 S4 MT, 3 spoke steering wheel, no NAV. Also, what does the S8 and 8 represent in your pic? I couldn't find any explanation on the website. Thanks for the write up and GB.
