What is better on snow and Ice: 4WD w/All Seasons or FrontWD w/ Snow/Winer tires

fwd/snow tires without a doubt: I tested this myself in my DSM's before
getting the S4. I had Blizzaks on a fwd Laser and all-seasons on an awd Talon. The Talon was marginally quicker to take off in snow, but in all other respects---cornering, stability, stopping---it was killed by the fwd Laser.
An awd car with winter tires is superior to both.

Why did fwd/A6/winter take 5% longer to stop than awd/A6/winter? This contradicts
the text of the article ("the weight of a 4wd system simply adds to the momentum that has to be stopped"), and is also inconsistent with the results for the Benz.
