At what gas price, considering the poor gas mileage of the S4, do sales drop off?

BTW, there are quite a few high performance cars with much better gas mileage. Not many with AWD, 4 doors, and manual trans.

Default I'd say the addage of if you can afford to buy it, you can afford to pump gas in it

surely SOME will trail off, but when spending 50 k for a "sedan" if you can afford it you can afford the gas.

Premium here in Seattle is over the 3 buck line already and well, I think if premium crosses the 3.50 you'll see people screaming, at 4.00 you'll see people selling

who knows, I think it's truly an interesting time to watch, but then I sold my s4 and now my trips to the Gas Man happen about 1/4 th as much b/c my 05 s2000 gets upwards of 21 in the worst of city conditions where my s4 avant got about 10 in city...

either way it sucks... gas is just one of manythings that the "man" is jackin us on

Default What I'm thinking is that as gas prices go higher, other high performance cars will become

more attractive based only on gas mileage and gas price. Some S4 owners will start puting in lower grades of gas believing that the computer is supposed to compensate . This could especially be true of thoase that lease who are not concerned about the long term effects of using low quality lower octane gas.

Default I always find the excuse that"gas is NOW inflation prices" Well, then why was it

immune to 3% increase for a decade. And then why
was 2 dozen other things? You can't make up for
inflation in one swoop 10 yrs later. It's a
combination of boutique gas, and the now increased
cost of crude , and only having 8 oil refineries
cooking boutique gas. BTW..boutique gas is an EPA
regulation that every season change, in 6-8 regions, cannot sale gas to the other regions.
Thus distribution cost, and refinery costs to boot
up and sell the reformulated gas..to all regions.
Example. You cannot sell a candy bar in Denver,
that could be sold in Kansas City. If the KC bars
fall short in demand, they cannot be shipped from
Denver. It's against the law. Much more, but I tire of the typing thing.

Default Sure you can. Let's follow that anology. I can father kids,

but why should I pay for them or even raise them?

I don't believe mpg is a factor for a $50k+ performance sedan for anyone.

Default That's a silly statement.

I am quite sure on a $50k+ performance sedan you will find quite a diverse group of people.

Some of those may care about gas mileage. Just because you don't, doesn't mean 100% of the people agree with you.
