Default At what point does this car stop burning oil

I'm at 12k and still having to add oil every once in a while. I hope nothing is wrong. Looked at the dip stick today and the oil seemed a bit blackish but the fill is probably 2500 miles old. Any one else adding oil at 12k +?

Default I end up putting between 1/2 a quart and a quart in accross the 5000 miles between fills...

part of which is the techs at the dealer not putting enough in.

Default Mine *seems* to have stopped now at 11k.

It's been about 6,000 since my last change (I know--I'll get to it), and I haven't had to add anything for about 3,000 miles.

Default It's obvious that your piston rings have never seated. Probably

due to your break in proceedure. If that is the case, your car will ALWAYS burn oil. And Audi, as well as other auto mfgs, would consider your oil consuption both normal and acceptable. I don't, and aparently you do not either. AT this point you have a few alternatives: 1) Live with it, oil is cheap. 2) Get another car? 3) If this were my problem, I would add a can of RESTORE engine oil treatment. It will not damage your engine, but it might reduce or eliminate your oil consumption. It could be worth a try if this REALLY bug you, which I believe it does!

Default Worth a shot...like you say, what harm can it do?

I'm a little worried because i added a quart under one thousand miles ago and the oil light came on again Friday night. I don't see any leaking.

Default A car that burns 0 oil is a fallacy. There are too many variables to consider...

There is excessive oil consumption and normal oil consumption. Excessive would be > 1qt./1K miles. A good, hard break-in is the way to go but there really is not alot you could do to mess up the break-in; though that's not impossible.

Default I wouldn't add any of that Restore crap to your S4. Maybe to an '89 LeSabre.

It could void your warrranty

Default False. There are many factors which influence oil consuption.

I have literally thousands of dyno tests which prove your statement wrong.
